Features of professional sharpening
Sharpen eyebrow tweezers in workshops and some salons. They employ specialists who not only know how to sharpen a tool, but understand how to do it correctly. Typically, a microscope is used when working, which allows you to achieve optimal precision in finishing the edge and cutting part.
For the main sharpening process, sharpening equipment with a whetstone interspersed with diamond chips is used. Moreover, different types of abrasive are used, which makes it possible to achieve uniform and smooth sharpening.
The advantage of contacting a specialist is the simplicity and lack of hassle, as well as a guarantee of results. The specialist will sharpen the tool and level the toe of the jaws if there is a misalignment, too much gap or, conversely, there is none. This is convenient, especially if the owner of the tweezers does not understand such subtleties.
But there is also a minus – Not everywhere there are workshops and specialists you can turn to. In addition, they may have a queue and it is likely that they will have to wait – from several hours to a couple of days. In this case, you can either throw away the tweezers and buy new ones (below we will tell you where you can order professional tools) or try to do it at home and sharpen it yourself. There is nothing difficult in the second task.
How to sharpen tweezers at home
The first thing you need – prepare materials and tools. To sharpen tweezers you will need:
- coarse and fine-grained sandpaper;
- metal plate;
- a little water.
You can use any metal plate. You can even replace it with thin plastic or other material, you just need it to be smooth and durable. Then the whole process consists of the following stages:
Pre-sharpening
The first thing you need to do to sharpen tweezers at home – prepare sandpaper. It needs to be cut into several parts and each folded 2-3 times to form a bend. Then you can start working on eliminating defects on the edge and restoring its sharpness.
To do this, use tweezers to grab the edge of a piece of coarse sandpaper folded in half. Next, adjusting the compression of the tool, rub the sandpaper from side to side several times. This must be done until the edges of the tweezers are aligned.
This approach allows you to repeat the factory sharpening. If the forceps are positioned correctly, their functionality can be restored. You need to adjust the angle of inclination based on the task. It must be large first to remove defects. And then, to sharpen the pointed tweezers, you need to make a small angle, a smooth slope.
Final sanding
This measure helps to fix the sharpening and restore the sharpness of the tool.
To complete the task you will need fine-grained sandpaper. The algorithm is the same: you need to fold the sandpaper and grab it with tweezers. For convenience, you can wrap paper around a thin plate (made of metal or plastic) or use a small nail file.
After – you need to slightly moisten the sandpaper and repeat the same action: grab the bend with tweezers and move it from side to side several times. This measure – polishing is aimed at eliminating minor defects.
The last stage – sharpening the edges. To do this, you need to grab the sandpaper with tweezers and sharply push them down. It is enough to repeat this action 2-3 times (no more than 5).
